This is my front suspension and steering in my 2001 XJ.

Kinja'd!!!

I decided to take a closer look tonight.

This is what’s known as a track bar relocation bracket. It’s designed to allow your factory track bar up to 3" of lift.

Kinja'd!!!

This is clearly an adjustable track bar. Designed to adjust to the proper length after a lift.

Kinja'd!!!

Now, the track bar and the drag link should be parallel to avoid bump steer. The relocation bracket clearly fucks that up, and there’s absolutely zero reason to run both the relocation bracket and the adjustable bar. Sometime within the next week I get to rip out that stupid bracket and properly adjust the bar. Hopefully it drives a little better after that.

I’m guessing the PO had a lift on it and removed it before selling, but didn’t feel like removing the trackbar set up.

So the stock nut has a tack welded on bracket thing so you don’t need to put a wrench on it. The only way I could get any type of wrench on the new nut supplied with new track bar was to use a crows foot open ended 17mm and hold it in place and tighten from the front. Then work the crows foot out after it was tightened. It doesn’t appear you have the stock one there anyway, so you may have to do this if you haven’t already worked that out.

Some people will just drill an additional hole more to the center of the axle.

Jeepers creepers! That’s no good. It’s the worst when you’ve got a bad ass off roader annnnnnnnd it sucks to drive on the road. I fought heim joints, shocks, flat spotted tires, warped rotors, a wallered out heim on the track bar, and upper and lower control arms on my 1999 XJ. What did I do when it was finished? Sold it. What an idiot...

I don’t have any of that fancy stuff, I’ve got stone age iron. M37s have these stabilizer doohickeys, and are rebuildable apparently, this pic you can see the two of them by the wheel above the lead springs. They handle like a Caddy if you are moving. I only have really old guys to talk to about this truck, one of you has to get one too!! This is a pic from way before I had it, it was with MA fire last and they sold it off to an employee of theirs who worked on it for eight years before I got it.
